Abstract

This paper examines the strategies employed by the first Franciscans in Mexico in order to translate the elements of the world they needed to know seeking to build a new (indo)christian world. The aim is to analyze in the texts of Toribio de Benavente (1482?-1569), Diego Valadés (1533-¿?), Bernardino de Sahagún (1499-1590) and Jerónimo de Mendieta (1525-1604) their translation of the indian language.
