Diálogos en torno a la gobernanza imperial y de los Andes en la época Habsburgo

This review essay evaluates the historiography of governance in the Andes in the Habsburg era, in dialogue with studies of the government of the Spanish empire. Among the convergences identified are the characterization of governance in Perú as inserted the composite monarchy, the monarchy of courts, and the polycentric monarchy. Likewise, several common mechanisms of domination are posited in the two literatures, such as baroque culture, patronage, paperwork and power-knowledge. The conceptual originality of Andean historiography of governance lies in the attribution of agency from below.
