Língua como denúncia, tradução como denúncia: Famintos , de Luís Romano

Abstract

Fifty years after Cape Verde’s independence, we believe it is important to reflect on Luís Romano’s contribution, in his novel Famintos (1962), to the consolidation of Cape Verdean linguistic and literary identity. At a time when the discussion of language policy for the promotion of Creole presents Italian translators with the difficulty of safeguarding the most characteristic aspects of this type of text, the translation carried out by Gruppo Terzo Giorno during the final years of the colonial war (1973) proves to be a useful sample for analysing the translation techniques applied.
