The article compiles an exhaustive documentation on an unsuccessful revolt for the independence, happened on January 24, 1814 in San Salvador, El Salvador. It rakes two centuries of Salvadorian historiography to discover the way in which the events join the historical national conscience. It examines Pedro Paul Castillo's figure which ranges between the ends of hero and traitor. The article does not return historical facts; it investigates the late and paradoxical compilation in the Central American historiography. Rastrea dos siglos de historiografía salvadoreña para descubrir la manera en que los sucesos se integran en la conciencia histórica nacional.
