La frontiera

Abstract

Emerging subjectivity lives willingly in the border. In a period of transition and paradigmatic competition, the border stands out as a privileged form of sociability. The better subjectivity feels in the border, the more it can exploit the emancipatory potential. Among the key features of frontier life relevant to support what will be argumented here, it should be underlined: the very selective and instrumental use of traditions brought in the frontier from pioneers and emigrants; invention of new forms of sociability; weak hierarchies; plurality of powers and legal orders; fluidity of social relations; promiscuity among strangers and natives; hybridism of ethnic heritage and inventions. La soggettività emergente vive volentieri nella frontiera. In un periodo di transizione e di competizione paradigmatiche, la frontiera spicca come forma privilegiata di sociabilità. Quanto meglio si sentirà nella frontiera, tanto più la soggettività potrà sfruttarne il potenziale emancipatorio. Fra le principali caratteristiche della vita di frontiera pertinenti alla tesi che sostengo qui, mi preme sottolineare queste: uso molto selettivo e strumentale delle tradizioni portate nella frontiera da pionieri ed emigranti; invenzione di nuove forme di sociabilità; gerarchie deboli; pluralità di poteri e di ordini giuridici; fluidità delle relazioni sociali; promiscuità fra estranei e intimi; mescolanze di eredità e invenzioni.
