The purpose of this article is to analyze the novel Serpa Pinto. Pueblos en la tormenta (1943) by Giuseppe Garretto, from the point of view of history, historiography and literary analysis. Published for the first time in Spanish despite the Italian nationality of the author, this novel went unnoticed by critics. We aim to study the historical context of the work references and the publication of the first edition, in order to situate the work as part of the literary historiography of the exile of European refugees in Latin America. Moreover, we analyze the literary characteristics of the novel, as well as the narrative remembrance strategies used by the author.
