This study aimed to analyze the oppression of women in the play La casa de Bernarda Alba (1936) written by the Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca and in the short story “El Cometa Halley” (1986) written by the Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas. Regarding that in the short story, “El Cometa Halley”, Arenas suggests a new end to the play written by García Lorca, this work aimed to understand to what extent some mechanisms of repression and oppression are repeated in both literary works. To do so, it was carried out an analysis of each work and a comparative analysis as well. It was verified that in both works the oppressed repeated with other people the oppression they suffered generating a certain vicious cycle of oppression. Besides, in the play by García Lorca as well as in the short story by Arenas, Adela is a character that stands out for her dissonant voice: in the play, she claims the autonomy over her body and desires and in the short story, she is the voice raised to remember and denounce the injustices lived under maternal subjugation.
