In this article we focus on the construction process of the Comunidade Jongo Dito Ribeiro, born at the beginning of 2000 through the reactivation of jongo, an afro-brazilian cultural practice. Thanks to community leader’s narratives and “story of life”, we concentrate on the transformation of her personal path in the jongo universe, into the community collective path; on its “territorialization” process and on the performative dimension of jongo, subject to innovations and adjustments dependent on the context of its reproduction.
