This article analyzes the discrete configurations of cultural intimacy that informed and shaped the construction and forms of experience of Arab/Syrian-Lebanese ethnicity in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The analysis showed how ideals of intimacy, embodied experiences, and orientalist stereotypes were articulated in order to produce forms of distinction that were lived as exclusive of the Arab/Syrian-Lebanese community, while were communicated through cultural idioms that were produced by the Brazilian society.
