Landero ́s characters live in a common world, aspire to the sublime and fall into the grotesque, revealed by the deformation, but not degradation, of their humanity; they never lose their dignity, however ridiculous the experiences they must face may be, because the author mixes all three ingredients (routine, sublimation and grotesque) in the same amount; because of their stubborn pursuit of their desires; because author, character and reader share the same inanity. Thus, Landero achieves a kind of grotesque which we shall denominate compassionate grotesque.Downloads
