This paper aims to analyse how came to happen the metamorphosis of the landscape in the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul (NCRS) This can be understood through the reports of the travellers Auguste de Saint-Hilaire and Carl Seidler. Both travellers toured in the NCRS in the 1820s.They witnessed historic events since the transit of the soldiers until the settlement of the germans colonists. What was seen by Seidler and not seen by Saint-Hilaire makes possible to realize the changes that occurred in the area that now is called NCRS.
