In this essay, we will emphasize some of the main interpretive models of the so called Iberian based political culture and their relationship to the consolidation of deeply rooted democracy. The characterization of the idea of cordiality is put forward as a manifestation of this cultural tendency, best expressed, in the Cape Verdean context trough the category morabeza (welcoming, warmth, hospitality...). Both apologetic and critical arguments are presented regarding the relationship between this cultural current and the deepening of the modern democratic socio-political order.
