This paper is the result of an in progress ethnographic research in a slum of Guatemala City, a “red zone”, as local media label the marginal areas of the city. The paper will offer a complex interpretation of that place, understood as a relational outcome not only relating to the actors that live in, but to a general mental and social structure interconnected to the whole metropolitan area. The analysis of the rhetoric used to produce this social enclave will necessary focus on a specific phenomenon: the transnational juvenile banditry.
