This article proposes a reading of Mapocho (Fernández, 2002) in which two ‘eccentric returns’ linked to national history are interpreted as forceful devices of subversion: resulting from the synthesis between a spectral return of political, ideological and historical-memorial nature (Derrida 1993; Fisher 2013) and an act of different sex-gendered repetition (Butler 1988), these fictional devices manage to challenge the imposition of the ‘constituent’ narrative of a hegemonic model and disarm, from the margin, the archival violence of its official historiography.
