Abstract

This article aims to study the production and circulation of a video by the YouTuber Felipe Castanhari about the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship. It is argued that the narrative elaborated by the YouTuber updates a specific historical and memorial interpretation of the dictatorship – the so-called "theory of the two demons" – and that its placement on YouTube satisfies a demand for a customized and personalized past, a “past on demand”. We contribute to analyzing memory disputes about the dictatorship in virtual environments, relating content and form.
