José Saramago was a man and a writer committed to his time, denouncing, by recovering the past or by projecting events in a future that may come to pass, the many and most diverse violations of the most basic human rights. Or, in other words, exposing scenarios and environments in which Man becomes "definitely a wolf of man". Thus, in the construction of possible portraits of the contemporary Portugal (and also of the world) or of other times, the author's irreverent magic of contemplation never leaves the objects ideologically intact.
