Cain, the last José Saramago’s novel, returns once again to a reinterpretation of the Bible in order to ratify the idea of the human disagreements with the divine power. However, apart from his desecrate and sarcastic vision of God, cain is above all a character who crosses different spaces and times – which would be impossible out of the fiction – and must be alive to give witness in favor of humanity. In this sense he becomes a sort of double of his own author.
