Abstract

The article focuses on Brazilian production for children and intends to deepen some of the strategies aimed at sanctioning the subordination of Afro-descendant characters. By adopting Lobato’s Tia Nastácia as a model of negative and stereotyped representation, we will try to shed light on the most common representations which, for a good part of the twentieth century, will stigmatize –  from a visual and textual point of view – the Afro-descendant population by negatively affecting on the self-perception of black girls and boys.
