This article aims to discuss aspects of the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985) from two filmographic works: O ano em que meus pais saíram de férias (2006) and Pra frente, Brasil (1982). Therefore, considerations are made about the context of dictatorship, especially regarding the curtailment of freedom, censorship, and repression. Knowing that the films, although fictional, help to reflect on the past, both works are taken as a historical source for the study of the Brazilian dictatorial regime, because they portray the 1970s, the period of the hardest dictatorship.
